Winch Returned to HPID

 by Michael J. Marino

The winch that was missing from Huntley Project Irrigation District (HPID) was returned at the district’s Jan. 11 board meeting. Kevin McGovern, owner of K2 Civil, Inc., arrived at the meeting with Jeremiah McGee, a K2 staff member, and told the board he brought the winch in the back of his truck.

The topic of the winch being out of place first came up during the Oct. 12, 2022 HPID board meeting, according to the board-approved meeting minutes available online, which state, “Our existing 6-ton w[i]nch that went missing sometime in the construction process at the Lift Station is still not accounted for. We were told it was hauled off to K2 Civil’s shop and would be returned. Willy said he has called them several times asking them to return this to us, but we still do not have it at this time.”

At December’s board meeting, it was stated the winch was “taken without permission” by K2 Civil, and it was said they would either like the winch back or to be compensated for it.

Both K2 Civil and the irrigation district have contended that the news story dated Dec. 23, 2022 in Yellowstone County News (YCN) took the situation out of context from the board meeting comments. YCN stands behind its story and that what was said at the public meeting was explained in the story.
