In a unanimous vote of approval, the Huntley-Yellowstone County Water and Sewer District Board of Directors increased their rates following a public hearing held Monday, Jan. 9, 2023.

Water district ratepayers pay a “base charge” if they use less than 500 gallons of water in a billing cycle. Previously, this charge was $26.00; but beginning on Feb. 1, it will be $30.00. This equals a 15.38% increase.

The board also approved a $40.00 jump to their required security deposit from $50.00 to $90.00, also effective Feb. 1, which is an 80% increase. Board member Brian Ferder said they wanted to ensure the amount of the deposit “matched three months’ worth of service,” in case a customer receives service and then decides not to pay.

Board member Julie Frie added, “If they pay their bill by the 28th of each month, then they get that deposit back,” when service is discontinued.

Standard usage fees were not changed at Monday’s hearing.
