After a set of match-ups that lasted until after 11:00 p.m. on Oct. 28, both Huntley Project and Shepherd’s volleyball teams will advance to the upcoming Southern B Divisionals in Manhattan, Montana, Nov. 3-5.

Shepherd’s Lady Fillies upset Joliet in their second game of the tournament, then also beat Huntley Project in the semi-final undefeated game. However, Huntley’s Lady Red Devils came back through the losers’ bracket to then play Huntley Project twice in the championship games.  Since this was a true double elimination tournament, Huntley won the first game and then had to play Shepherd again and also won the second championship game.

HP Head Coach, Iona Stookey, said the evening was “intense,” and added, “both teams played their hearts out.”

“Everybody in the gym was tired by the end of it,” said Stookey, and she noted she’s extremely proud of her team. Also, she said, “Our fans were awesome… and our players had some grit and played with a lot of heart.”

The fight for the football playoff rounds proved to be quite exciting as well, with Huntley Project scoring an 80-yard touchdown against Cut Bank early in their game. The Red Devils went on to win 52-14.

The Shepherd Mustangs were also a force to be reckoned with considering they dominated the scoreboard until almost the end of the game against the Fairfield Eagles. The Eagles scored late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to usurp a win; Shepherd took the cake with a score of 20-12.

Football quarter finals will be November 5 at 1:00 p.m. in Worden and Shepherd. Southern B Divisionals for volleyball will be played in Manhattan November 3 – 5 this year. In case one is unable to watch in person, all these games will be broadcast live on www.ycnsports.com or over the air on 101.1 FM (KFHW) in Billings.
