Wells, Wells, Wells! WBYC Water & Sewer Project Enters Final Phase

by Michael J. Marino

Following a sewer leak on North 15th Road in Worden, members of the Worden-Ballantine Yellowstone County Water & Sewer District (WBYCWS) board of directors wanted to remind residents to not flush disposable wet wipes, baby wipes, paper towels, or anything other than toilet paper and “what comes out of your body” down the toilet. Employee Sandy Kust stated that she’s already had six call-outs since the beginning of August for this and other various maintenance requests. She also stated that “it’s $900.00 every time we have to clean those [sewer lines].”

Kust also reported that four of the five new wells have been drilled for the district’s water project. Kust said, “Once the soil samples are figured out, the screens will be ordered,” and then installed. She predicted they could be sampling as early as later this month or early September, but noted it “depends on how quickly we can get the supplies.” This will mark the end of Phase II of the project. “Once phase two is completed, we will no longer be under administrative order,” said Kust. This order was in place due to Worden’s water being contaminated at a level of 111 points on the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) scale. That level of contamination is only nine points away from being considered an “acute health risk” by DEQ.
