Worden shoppers’ donations go to young boy with cancer

BROWNIE TROOP Helps Make a Wish

WORDEN — Fifteen girls and their Brownie Girl Scout leader made Christmas a little brighter for a 3-year-old boy being treated for cancer.

Meesha Orrison’s Brownie troop 2314 collected $150 from the community to help Nathan decorate his bedroom with Sponge Bob memorabilia.

Orrison accessed the Make a Wish Foundation website and asked the girls to select a name. They chose the Billings boy as the one they wanted to help. (Only the first name of the child was available on the website.)

The girls set a goal of $100 to raise, but surpassed that. “Thank you notes are going up at the video and grocery store to thank the community for their support.”

Orrison put donation cans at the two locations and collected the money that shoppers donated every other day.

“I put a dollar in to get it started, then added another dollar and change later,” said Orrison.

Apparently, so did other shoppers. From Dec. 1 to Dec. 17, a total of $150 was dropped into the cans.

Orrison wrote a check to the Make a Wish Foundation to pass on to Nathan’s family.

“They are going out shopping today,” said Orrison on Monday.
