College isn’t his cup of tea at this time, but that’s not to say Preston Toogood isn’t destined for great achievements. Preston, a Huntley Project alumni, completed basic training and is ready for the next step of his military career. As he prepares to be deployed to Okinawa, Japan, Preston said, “I wanted to join the Marines because it offered a challenge.”
He will be joining the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to patrol the Asian Sea, and stand guard in case of any troubles in the Eastern Hemisphere. The 31st MEU is the military’s only forward-deployed unit in the Pacific, but carries the strength of 2,200 personnel and stands as a “force-in-readiness” for the United States.
On this first deployment, Preston will serve as a designated marksman for a seven-month tour. The Philippines and Thailand are just a couple of the stops that he will take in along the way.
“I’m excited to learn about Japan’s culture, you know, leave America and experience something different. . .. I’m looking forward to the jungle warfare training, as well,” Preston told YCN.
Preston is the son of Mike and Julie Toogood from Worden, MT.
