A grass fire was reported north of Bald Eagle Blvd. along the railroad tracks in Huntley at around 4:00 PM Tuesday, April 11.

Worden Fire Chief, Stormey Tucker, told YCN firefighters with Worden Fire Department (WFD) experienced some delay in reaching the fire because of the access road – owned by Huntley Project Irrigation District – being blocked by a locked gate to protect the district’s diversion dam.

Despite the delay, firefighters were able to keep the flames from jumping the train tracks, and they had completely extinguished the blaze by about 4:45 PM.

A property owner off Bald Eagle Blvd. said she called to report the fire right away due to the high winds on Tuesday, and because a similarly located fire had occurred last summer which crossed over the tracks and nearly burned her home and property down.

Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist WFD firefighters.
