Billings Elks Lodge #394 presented a check for $729 to the Worden Fire Department (WFD) to purchase much-needed equipment on Saturday, March 4, at the Huntley Fire Station.
The donation is part of the Montana State Elks Association’s (MSEA) State Major Project grant funding. According to Project Chair, Jeff Isom, this grant money has previously gone to such causes as Camp Make-A-Dream and independent rural hospitals.
“The redirected focus of this annual project was proposed, and passed, at the 2019 [MSEA] Summer Conference in Livingston,” stated Isom. “It is intended to improve safety for firefighters,” he explained, “who are many times the first responders to any emergency, by providing funding for ‘necessary’ equipment and training.”
Isom added, “There are many Volunteer Fire Departments that have little to no funding and are in desperate need of equipment and training to increase their safety and improve their department’s response… The Montana members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks want to do all we can to assist you because Elks Care [and] Elks Share.”
Isom gave the donation to Captains Carl Midgley and Leif Olsen Saturday. Midgley noted the money will be used to obtain “more life jackets and throw rope bags.”
