Construction at Nahmis & 312 to Improve Safety, Visibility

Crews with Mountain West Holding Company have nearly completed the process of installing road improvements near the 100-block Old Hwy. 312 at Nahmis Ave. in Huntley. These include brighter, easier-to-read signage, and a wider shoulder area from Hwy. 312 onto Nahmis.

With a reported 577 crashes at the intersection over a ten-year period, six of which resulted in fatalities, this project has long been sought after.

U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) official, James Stevenson, said the intersection was deemed an “accident cluster” due to people “coming off 312 too fast.”

“So, we took that wide radius out and made it more of a perpendicular intersection,” said Stevenson, and gave northbound traffic “a big shoulder… in case they take the corner too quickly.”

Crews additionally added a guard rail and illuminated signs to increase visibility at night, Stevenson reported.
