A dinner and autction will be held for Koni on Sunday December 2, 2012 from 2-6pm at the Huntley Project High School in Worden, MT. The benefit dinner and auction will go towards helping Koni reach his goal of receiving prosthetics and eventually returning to the football field next year. This is an opportunity for the community to help Koni and Koni will be greatfully thankful.
The following info is about Koni from his facebook benefit and donation page:
Koni Dole is a 16 year old Huntley football player who suffered a broken leg three weeks ago in the season finale game. In the last quarter of the game, while making a tackle on a defensive play, he suffered a double-break in his lower right leg, snapping it in half. Doctors performed six surgeries, but the damage was too intense and Koni was forced to make the decision to amputate his leg or not….
It was only after being told by doctors that this would be the only chance he had of ever returning to sports, that he decided to move forward with the amputation. Coaches testify that Koni Dole is a one-in-a-million student and athlete. The work ethic that he brings, the drive that he has, and the effort that he puts forth to make everyone else on the team better is something that they have never seen before. “If there is one kid out there that can rise above this and inspire others, it is Koni” His goal is to be back on the field with teammates for next year’s season opener and then go on to play for the Bozeman Bobcat’s his freshman year in college.
Although the family insurance did pay for Koni’s amputation and surgery, it is not part of their policy to pay for the prosthetics that are needed afterward. The family is faced with the financial burden in order to provide their son with the 2 prosthetics that he needs. One for his everyday normal life, and second more important one, for his athletic dreams of wrestling and playing football again.
