Worden Fire promotes first woman to captain

WORDEN -Stormy Tucker of the Worden Fire Department was named captain at the department’s meeting on Monday, Dec. 7.

When Fire Chief Lance Taylor presented Stormy with her new white helmet, he said, “She has gone above and beyond the call in my eyes. I do not take promotions lightly and I am very proud of her.”

Tucker is the first woman to be named captain in the department’s history. She has been with the department since October 2008.

Tucker joins fellow captains Ruben Anderson, Dave Buys, Andy Dean and Larry Hanson.

Julie Witham was recommended for the operational roster after being interviewed and passing her physical.

“Witham will participate in training conducted by the department for six months and will be reviewed for membership and voted on by the members,” reported Secretary E.J. Jensen.

AFLAC insurance agent Angie Wheeler attended the meeting to discuss the supplemental insurance they offer. “The department can participate as a group or on an individual basis,” Wheeler said. The department members wishing to obtain more information on the insurance signed up and Wheeler will be calling them.

The department purchased “badly needed” tables and chairs for the fire hall from part of the Hunters Breakfast proceeds.

Taylor thanked the volunteers who assisted in the Worden Christmas Stroll on Dec. 4 and asked for volunteers for the Huntley Stroll set for Saturday, Dec. 19 from 1 to 6 p.m.

“We will be serving cookies and hot chocolate at our station,” said Taylor.

The fire fighter appreciation dinner will be held in February, reported Jensen. “When we first started these appreciation dinners and selected the firefighter of the year, it was just us,” said Jensen. “It is up to you, but my thought is to have our dinner for us and another later for neighboring firefighters and assistants. In January, we can further discuss this,” Jensen added.
