Huntley Project has another reason to be proud of a student.  The Billings Elks Lodge Awarded Landen McNiven, a 5th grader at Huntley Project Elementary School, 3rd place at the Awards Banquet on May 13th in honor of his achievement of in Division I which consisted of 5th and 6th graders in the State of Montana.  Out of 110 essays submitted, Landen placed 3rd overall.

The topic chosen this year was “Americanism, What does Veterans Day Mean to Me?” With his 3rd place finish in his essay, he also received $50.00 check as his prize.  The awards banquet and dinner awarded other scholarship winners as well as Students of the Year Awards, Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards and 18 Memorial Scholarship Awards each worth $1,000 to go towards College.

As Landen has been involved in many volunteer and community activities over the years, Landen is also involved in Boy Scouts as well as plays on the local Huntley Project baseball team where he is a pitcher as well as plays short stop, 2nd and 3rd base.  In addition to the other activites and sports that Landen plays, Landen specifically loves to play basketball outdoors.  Last year, Landen placed 4th in the State Hersey’s Track Meet for 10-11 year olds as well played on the Lockwood All-stars Baseball Team.  Landen was accompanied by his family and other award recipients at the Awards Banquet.

Congrats to Landen for his good work and example representing Huntley Project School, teachers, veterans, friends and family.
